ANALYSIS OF HEMATOLOGICAL RESULTS IN COLORECTAL CANCER PATIENTS TREATED WITH OXALIPLATIN AND IRINOTECAN

Colorectal cancer is currently an important cause of mortality and one of the most frequent in both sexes. Its development can be prevented by reducing exposure to risk factors such as alcoholism, high-fat diet, unsafe sexual practices, sedentary lifestyle, smoking, among others. This study aims to outline a hematological profile for patients with colorectal cancer undergoing chemotherapy with oxaliplatin and irinotecan. The research was carried out by analyzing the medical records of patients undergoing treatment for colorectal cancer in a Bragança Paulista hospital. The results indicate that most patients are male and aged between 50 and 70 years. The most notable information found regarding the blood count was that 76.5% of the patients had a reduction in the neumber of red blood cells, 58.8% of hemoglobina and 52.9% of hematocrit. Furthermore, 33.3% of the patients had increased neutrophils, 47.8% RDW, 12.5% platelets. Based on the results, it was possible to observe changes in blood elements resulting from chemotherapy treatment in most patients and associate how these changes can influence their quality of life, bringing consequences such as secondary infections, cardiovascular diseases, hypoxia, easy fatigue, weakness, malaise.headache, among others. From the data obtained, seek to help in choosing a more appropriate treatment and a shorter treatment time, aiming to reduce the effects caused by chemotherapy to provide na improvement in the quality of life.
