Abstract

Eira barbara, popularly known as tayra, is a carnivorous member of the Mustelidae Family with a wide geographic distribution and great ecological importance. Therefore, to provide more study about the morphology of the urinary and reproductive tract of this species, this work aims to provide a broader understanding of the female urogenital system of Eira barbara. In mammals, the urinary tract includes a pair of kidneys, a pair of ureters, a urinary bladder, and a urethra that opens in the region between the vagina and vestibule. The female genital system consists of a pair of gonads, a pair of fallopian tubes, uterus, vagina and vestibule of the vagina and as external genitalia we have the vulva. The organs of interest were dissected, photographed and collected for routine histological processing, stained using the hematoxylin-eosin and Gomori trichrome method. The organs showed a certain degree of autolysis; however it was possible to suggest the physiology by correlating the anatomical structures of Eira barbara with domestic and wild animals.
